Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis, when used as a therapeutic tool, is wonderful at finding causes of problems and then bringing about resolution. However, it is not magic. It uses techniques that allow access to the more emotional part of the mind. Things like fear, anger, anxiety, stress and panic often have an emotional cause. The effects demonstrate that.

Some of the books below will help sufferers from problems, others will help therapists to deal with them.

Strictly for Therapists by John Smale
Strictly for Therapists is an honest and open book that explains the causes, effects and treatments for many of the problems that a therapist is asked to deal with. Very often therapy is like working on a cryptic crossword. You have to look for clues from your clients. This book helps you by giving a lot of the letters for you to make solving those puzzles simpler. The task of a therapist is to expose the cause of each problem and then defuse the negative effects to build a positive future for the clients. They will trust you to help them. This book makes it easier for you to help them. Strictly for Therapists is an outline of the author’s experiences with a large number of problems presented by many clients over a substantial period of time. It is aimed at giving guidance and level-headed advice to new therapists, established therapists and their clients.

Transforming Therapy: New Approach to Hypnotherapy (with free Audio CD) [Audiobook] (Hardcover) by Gil Boyne
A superb text, it mainly consists of transcriptions of live therapy demonstrations with Boyne's explanatory comments throughout. The last section contains very concise and to the point advice on specific interventions and general maxims for the therapist. Gestalt dialogue and sentence stemming are the natural development of hypnotic regression therapy and Boyne demonstrates perfectly how to combine these two approaches into a form of advanced hypnotic insight therapy, which he cleverly calls "transforming therapy" (i.e., "trance-forming therapy"!) The accompanying tape delivers an excellent programming script for self-hypnosis and, on the flip side, one for improving your performance as a hypnotherapist. This book is an essential addition to any hypnotherapist's library, and if you are still doing regression therapy in the classic style of Freud and Breuer, DON'T, learn how to vastly and easily improve your technique by introducing Gestalt dialogue, shuttling, sentence completion, and other techniques of Transforming Therapy.
